n addition to guided tours, Moody Mansion offers its visitors self-guided exhibits that change throughout the year. Exhibits include traveling shows from institutions across the country as well as exhibits that share the extensive collections assembled by Mary Moody Northen.
November 2007 thru July 2008 "Working Order" Early 20th century women and men were very conscious of the health and appearance of their bodies. This was the "machine age', and it was most important to keep their bodies in "working order". This exhibit shares the secrets of early 20th century beauty care and healthy living.
November 2007 thru July 2008 "The House on Tremont Street" View architectural artifacts and historic furnishings from the home of Colonel William Lewis Moody. This structure was located at 1304 Tremont (23rd Street); near where O'Connell High School is located today. It was demolished in 1941, but the Colonel's granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Moody Northen, saved more than 75,000 bricks, tiles, distinguishing architectural artifacts, and furniture from the Colonel's house. For the first time, these treasures will be exhibited.
March 2008 thru January 2009 - “Mary Collects: Treasures of a Lifetime” As was typical of her generation, Mary Moody Northen collected a variety of art objects and memorabilia. This exhibit will showcase the breadth of those collections ranging from Russian icons, to Lalique swans to Native American jewelry, to postcards and greeting cards. The exhibit will open on March 15, 2008.
March thru September 2008, “Titanic, The Galveston Connection”. Moody Gardens is hosting a national exhibit “Titanic, the Artifact Exhibit”. As part of that exhibition, Moody Mansion, Galveston Historical Foundation, and Moody Gardens have worked collaboratively to offer a local connection to this tragic event of April 1912. That exhibit can be seen on the second floor of the Rainforest Pyramid. Don’t miss it when you visit Moody Gardens!
